Jaguar Car
Jaguar Cars is a car manufacturer from United Kingdom that particularly focuses itself on the production of luxuriously car. Ford Motor Company has taken over Jaguar Cars in December 1990, and categorized the brand next to Volvo cars, Land Rover and Aston Martin in the Premier Automotive Group.
In 1922 William Lyons founded the 'Swallow Sidecar Company' in the English town of Blackpool. This company represented itself mainly with the production of sidecar attachment combinations motor bicycles.
Five years later the step to coachwork construction would be made, because with the construction of an aluminum coachwork on the existing chassis of the Austin Seven a large order was dragged in. This all took such a flight that William Lyons decided to establish his company more centrally, whereupon in 1928 a move followed to English town of Coventry.
In the thirties several models under the name 'Silver Swallow' appeared (among others the SS I and the SS II). The emphasis came to lay more and more on speed and luxury.
With a completely new line of sedans and sports models in 1935 the name 'Jaguar' for the first time took its entrance. For Jaguar this period also meant its commencement in motor sport. So in 1936 the RAC Rally was won by a SS 100.
During the Second World War Coventry lay under heavy fire, and it would take till 1948 before a new vehicle was introduced. This Jaguar Mk V would however play an important role in the rebuilding of the brand.
For a larger production capacity, in 1960 Daimler was incorporated into the firm.
After numerous successes in motorsport with the Jaguar C-type and Jaguar D-type the gentlemen from Coventry introduced, in 1961 the legendary Jaguar E-type to the public.
A model that was, in 1966 predeceased by a more than 25 cm longer 2+2 version.In 1988, three years after William Lyons deceased, Jaguar won with her Jaguar XJR-9LM the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With at the wheel among others the Dutchman Jan Lammers.
